Onam Festival Celebrations In Kerala & Places In Kerala

King Mahabali || Pookalam || Pulikali || Onam Sadhya || Vallamkali || A Time for Togetherness

Onam, a vibrant ten-day harvest festival, is the heart and soul of Kerala. Celebrated during the Malayalam month of Chingam (August-September), it transcends religion and brings the state together. Legend has it that King Mahabali, a benevolent but arrogant ruler, is allowed to visit Kerala during Onam. People celebrate by creating intricate flower arrangements (Pookalam), wearing new clothes, indulging in the elaborate Onam Sadhya feast on banana leaves, and participating in energetic boat races and folk dances. It’s a joyous homecoming for the king and a celebration of Kerala’s rich culture.

“May this Onam bring you prosperity, happiness, and a renewed sense of togetherness.” King Mahabali
