Kerala explodes in celebration on November 1st for Kerala Piravi, also known as Kerala Day. This day marks the birth of Kerala as a unified state in 1956. Previously, the region was divided into three separate provinces – Malabar, Cochin, and Travancore. Kerala Piravi commemorates the coming together of these regions based on their shared Malayalam language and cultural heritage. It’s a day filled with immense pride for Malayalis, a time to honor their unique traditions and rich tapestry of art forms like Kathakali dance. Educational institutions hold competitions and events to keep the Malayalam language and Kerala’s history alive. People wear their finest traditional attire, creating a vibrant visual display. Kerala Piravi is a celebration of Kerala’s distinct identity and a powerful reminder of its unifying spirit.

“Kerala is not just a place; it’s an emotion.” M.T. Vasudevan Nair
